Thiem is the one contender that has made the most consistent progress towards breaking the dominance of the big three.

His excellent movement and effectiveness in both attack and defence have made him a long-time challenger of Djokovic and Nadal in particular.

Quietly confident in his own ability, and calm in the heat of battle. It is a rarity for him to lose his nerve or his temper.

He broke a four-year stranglehold of the Grand Slam titles by Federer, Nadal or Djokovic when he lifted the 2020 US Open title.

The fiery Russian catapulted himself into the top 10 with a stunning run of four finals in a row on the hard courts in North America in the summer of 2019.

Short-tempered and enigmatic, Medvedev has had fallouts with more than one of his opponents so far during matches.

However, his personality shone through when he addressed the crowd after they had booed him in the US Open 2019.

The Russian star cheekily thanked them for the energy they had given him, promising it would be enough for him to win his next five matches. He was cheered off the court after being beaten by Nadal in the final.

Cool-natured Greek star made his mark on the ATP tour in the 2018 and 2019 seasons recording victories over all three of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic along the way.

Since then he has been a regular in the top 10 and is always a threat to any opponent and one of the contenders for any tournament.

His biggest trophy to date is the ATP End of Year Tour Finals in 2019 when he beat Thiem 2-1 in the final.

Popular on social media, Tsitsipas is a philosophical character and has a history of showing real nerve in key moments such as facing break points.

Equally, he failed to convert six match points against Borna Coric in the 2020 US Open and went on to lose the match.
